I do think the vocals throughout the album are truly excellent (eg. But after I listen I feel a bit sickly because of the whole pop-discoish sound. But the beauty of "I'm in the black again / can't make it back again." reprisal undoes all of that. Like the predictability of the whole "la la la la / la la la la" harmonising. It's just undeniably gold in terms of the melody and hook (and commercial success), even more so than The Suburbs, yet there's something irritating and grating about it. Listening to the record Everything Now after a break of one year, I'm struck by how much of the essence of Arcade Fire (in particular the beautiful and emotion-filled vocals of Win and the general groove) is still in this often-lambasted album as well as how annoying some of it is.
